Convert PDF to other formats

Sometimes a PDF is the wrong shape for the job: you need a page as an image for a slide, the words as text you can edit, or a book that reflows on an e-reader. These tools take a PDF apart into the format you need, on your own device.

Convert from PDF

JPG or PNG: which image format is better?

JPG makes smaller files and suits pages with photos. PNG keeps sharp edges on text, charts and line drawings and can have a transparent background; it costs little extra for text pages but makes photo pages much larger. For a diagram you will put in a slide, PNG looks cleaner.

What resolution should I pick?

For viewing on screens, 150 DPI is plenty: a Letter page becomes 1,275 by 1,650 pixels. For printing, choose 300 DPI. Higher settings make each image much larger and can be slow on phones, so the tools lower the maximum on small devices.

Why does my PDF have no text to copy?

If the PDF was made by scanning paper, each page is a picture and there is no text inside it. PDF to Text finds nothing to copy from a scan. Text recognition (OCR) is needed first, and the tool tells you when a page has no text layer.

Does converting change the original PDF?

No. The tools read your PDF and make new files from it. The original stays exactly as it was, on your device. A PDF with many pages becomes many images, so image results download together as one ZIP file. Nothing is uploaded.
