Word to PDF

Turn a Word document (.docx) into a PDF with its page size, margins, headings, tables, images and links, and real text you can search and copy. RTF and OpenDocument (.odt) files work too. See a preview first. Nothing is uploaded.

How do I convert a Word document to PDF?

Press Choose a Word file and pick a .docx. A preview appears with the page size and margins read from the document. Keep Page size on Same as the document, or pick A4 or Letter, then press Convert to PDF and Download. The PDF takes the document's name.

  1. Press Choose a Word file and pick a .docx.
  2. Check the preview.
  3. Pick a Page size, or keep the document’s own.
  4. Press Convert to PDF, then Download.

Will my PDF look exactly like the Word document?

Close, for the documents we tested. Text, headings, tables, lists, images and links come through, and fonts keep Word's widths, so paragraphs wrap the same way. Some things Word draws itself are not carried over yet: page numbers in headers and footers, tables of contents fields, charts, equations and text boxes. The table shows our test results.

How do I convert RTF or ODT to PDF?

Choose the .rtf or .odt file the same way as a Word file. The tool reads its page size, margins, fonts, tables, pictures and links, shows a preview, and makes a PDF with real text. In our tests, the same report saved as RTF and as ODT by LibreOffice gave the same page count as the original .docx.

How do I convert a .doc file to PDF?

This tool reads .docx, the format Word has used since 2007. For an older .doc file, open it in Word, LibreOffice Writer or Google Docs, choose Save As or Download, pick Word Document (.docx), and convert that file here. The tool tells you when a file is the old format.

Can I save as PDF from Word itself?

Yes. In Word on Windows or Mac, choose File, then Save As or Export, and pick PDF; Word draws every feature exactly, including headers and page numbers. This page helps when Word is not installed, on a phone, on a shared or school computer, or when you would rather not upload the file to an online converter.

Limits and fixes

  • Headers, footers and page numbers are not added yet; use Add Page Numbers on the PDF afterwards.
  • Charts, equations, SmartArt and text boxes may be missing or simplified.
  • Fonts other than Word’s usual ones are replaced with a similar free font, so those lines may wrap differently.
  • Long documents follow Word’s own page breaks where the file stores them, then add breaks where pages fill.
  • .doc (Word 97 to 2003) files need saving as .docx first.
