How do I resize a PDF to A4 or Letter?

Press Choose a PDF and check the list of current page sizes. Pick A4, US Letter or another size, keep Orientation at Same as each page, and choose Scale to fit. Press Resize PDF, check the new sizes, then Download. Text stays sharp because pages are scaled as drawings, not turned into pictures.

  1. Press Choose a PDF and read the current sizes.
  2. Pick the New size and Orientation.
  3. Choose Scale to fit, with margins or Change the size only.
  4. Press Resize PDF, then Download.

What size is my PDF?

Choose the file and the tool lists every page's size in millimetres and inches, with the paper name when it matches one, such as US Letter or A4 landscape. Runs of pages with the same size are grouped, so a mixed file shows at a glance which pages differ. Nothing is changed until you press Resize PDF.

Does resizing a PDF make the file smaller?

No. Page size and file size are different things: this tool changes the paper dimensions, and the file size stays about the same. To make a PDF file smaller in megabytes, you need compression, which shrinks images inside the file; use Compress PDF for that.

What happens to a mixed-size file?

Each page is fitted on its own, so every page ends up the size you chose, with landscape pages on landscape paper. The table shows a test file the site build resized to A4 with the tool's own code. Text stays sharp, because pages are scaled rather than redrawn as pictures.

Run on 2026-10-16 by the site build: scale to fit, orientation same as each page.

1US Letter, 215.9 × 279.4 mm (8.5 × 11 in)A4, 210.0 × 297.0 mm (8.27 × 11.69 in)
2US Legal, 215.9 × 355.6 mm (8.5 × 14 in)A4, 210.0 × 297.0 mm (8.27 × 11.69 in)
3US Letter landscape, 279.4 × 215.9 mm (11 × 8.5 in)A4 landscape, 297.0 × 210.0 mm (11.69 × 8.27 in)
4A5, 148.0 × 210.0 mm (5.83 × 8.27 in)A4, 210.0 × 297.0 mm (8.27 × 11.69 in)

How do I put multiple pages on one sheet?

Choose the PDF, set Pages per sheet to 2, 4, 6, 8, 9 or 16, and pick the paper size. Pages go left to right, then top to bottom, each scaled to fit its space, and the sheet turns sideways when that suits the pages. The text stays real text. This is also called n-up printing.

Should I scale to fit or change the size only?

Scale to fit when printing on different paper, such as a US Letter file on A4: content shrinks slightly and nothing is cut off. Change the size only when you need extra space around the content, such as room for binding or notes; making the page smaller this way cuts off the edges.

Limits and fixes

  • File size in megabytes does not change; this tool resizes pages, not files.
  • Links to other pages inside the document still open the right page, but may land a little off the exact spot.
  • Print marks (trim and bleed boxes) are removed, because they no longer match the page.
  • Pages per sheet keeps text and drawings, but links, comments and form fields inside the pages are not carried onto the sheets.
  • Locked PDFs need their password removed first with Unlock PDF.
