How do I make place cards?

Paste your guest names, one per line, and add the table number or meal after a comma if you want a second line. Pick a design and color, then download the PDF. Print it at actual size on card stock, cut along the dashed lines, and fold each card at the small marks on its edges so it stands up.

  1. Paste the guest list, such as Ana Rivera, Table 4.
  2. Choose a design and color.
  3. Pick the card size.
  4. Download the PDF and print on card stock.
  5. Cut, then fold on the middle line.

Why is the name printed upside down on the top half?

Because a tent card folds in half. The top half becomes the back of the card, so its text is printed upside down, and once folded it reads the right way from the far side of the table. Short marks at both edges show where to fold, so no line runs across the card.

What goes on a place card?

The guest's name, as you want it read at the table, comes first. Wikipedia's entry on place cards notes they generally carry the guest's name and table number. A meal choice helps servers at a plated dinner. Keep it to one short second line so the name stays large and easy to read across the table.

Planning who sits where first? The seating chart maker seats guests by party and prints its own list and place cards.

What size is a place card?

A common folded size is 3-1/2 inches wide by 2 inches tall, printed flat at 3-1/2 by 4 inches, four to a sheet of US Letter. Larger 8-1/2 by 2-1/2 inch folded cards work as table number signs. Check the size on your card stock package and pick the closest preset, then print a test page.

Limits

  • The roses print as pictures. Names, frames and twigs are real text and lines; print at actual size.
  • Card sheet margins differ. Presets are centered on the page; use the test page and nudge.
  • No photos or icons on cards yet.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?

Yes, with no sign-up, no limit on guests and no watermark.

Can I use a script font?

Yes. Set Names to Script in any design; Garden Rose and Sprig use script on their own.

What are the small marks in the corner?

Meal marks. When the second line names the meal, such as Fish, a small fish, steak, chicken or leaf prints in the corner for the servers. Untick them in the settings.

Can I print on plain paper?

Yes, but card stock stands up better. Keep the cut lines on for plain sheets.

Where is my guest list kept?

In this browser only. Nothing is uploaded.
