What goes on a packing slip?

Your business name and return address, the order number, the order and ship dates, the ship-to address, and each item with its SKU, the quantity ordered and the quantity shipped. Prices are left off, so the slip can travel with a gift. A short thank-you note and a line saying it is not an invoice are optional.

What is the difference between a packing slip and an invoice?

An invoice asks for payment and shows prices, tax and a total. A packing slip shows what is inside the box and how many of each, without prices, so the person who opens it can check nothing is missing. Send an invoice for payment and put the packing slip in the parcel.

How do I show backordered items on a packing slip?

Enter the number ordered and the smaller number shipped. The slip then adds a To come column with the difference for that line, totals it at the bottom, and prints a note that those items will ship separately. When everything ships at once, the column stays hidden to keep the slip short.

Is a packing slip the same as an export packing list?

No. The International Trade Administration describes a packing list as itemizing the contents of each package, with weights and measurements, for freight forwarders and customs officials. A retail packing slip is simpler and is meant for the customer. For an export shipment, add weights and package counts in the note or use your carrier's forms.

Is a delivery note the same as a packing slip?

They do the same job: list what is in a delivery without prices. Delivery note is the more common name in the UK and for goods brought by van, and it is often signed by the person receiving the goods. Choose Delivery note above the page to rename it and add a Received by signature line.
