How do I convert HEIC to PDF?
Choose your HEIC photos, or drop them on the box above. The tool reads each photo on your device and shows a preview card. Drag the cards into the order you want, pick A4, Letter or the photo's own size, and press Convert to PDF. Every photo becomes one page of a single PDF.
- Press Choose HEIC photos. On iPhone, pick from Photos or Files; on a computer, pick the .heic files.
- Wait a moment while each photo is read. On Chrome, Edge and Firefox the first photo also loads the HEIC decoder, about 2 MB, once.
- Put the photos in order and choose the page size, orientation and margin.
- Optional: set a file size limit, such as 1 MB, for upload forms.
- Press Convert to PDF, then Download.
Can I combine several HEIC photos into one PDF?
Yes. Add as many HEIC photos as you like and they all go into one PDF, one photo per page, in the order of the cards. Drag cards to reorder them, rotate any photo, or remove one before converting. To join the result with other PDFs, press Merge PDF on the result screen.
How fast is it, and how big is the PDF?
On the sample photo we tested, decoding took 506 milliseconds and the PDF was 455 KB, smaller than the 701 KB HEIC file. Phones are slower than laptops, so a large batch of 48 megapixel photos can take a minute; the tool reads them one at a time to stay within phone memory.
| Step | Result |
|---|---|
| HEIC photo | 1280 x 854 px, 701 KB |
| Images found inside the file | 2 (the main photo is used) |
| Decode time | 506 ms |
| Photo saved as JPEG (92% quality) | 454 KB |
| Finished PDF, one A4 page | 455 KB |
HEIC stores photos more efficiently than JPEG, and PDF cannot hold HEIC directly, so each photo is saved as a high-quality JPEG inside the PDF. At 92% quality the difference is very hard to see.
How do I convert HEIC to PDF on Windows?
Windows cannot open HEIC photos without an extra codec, and its built-in Print to PDF cannot read them either. The simplest free route is this page in Chrome or Edge: it brings its own HEIC decoder, so nothing needs to be installed, and the photos stay on your computer.
How do I convert HEIC to PDF on a Mac or iPhone?
On a Mac, Preview can open a HEIC photo and export it as a PDF one file at a time. On iPhone, the Files app can make a PDF from selected images. This page does several photos at once in either Safari or Chrome, with page size and file size options, and no app.
Can I stop my iPhone from saving photos as HEIC?
Yes. Open Settings, then Camera, then Formats, and choose Most Compatible. New photos are then saved as JPG instead of HEIC, which take more space on the phone but open everywhere. Photos you already took stay HEIC, and this tool converts those.
Apple explains the two formats in Using HEIF or HEVC media on Apple devices. To keep the photos as pictures instead of a PDF, convert HEIC to JPG.
Limits and fixes
- Burst photos and Live Photos can hold several images in one file. The tool uses the main photo.
- HDR photos from newer iPhones are converted to standard colors, which can look a little flatter than on the phone screen.
- Large batches on phones: each 48 megapixel photo needs about 190 MB while it is decoded. The tool reads one at a time, but very long batches are faster on a laptop.
- First use on Chrome, Edge or Firefox downloads the HEIC decoder once (about 2 MB). After that it is cached.
Frequently asked questions
What is a HEIC file?
HEIC is the photo format iPhones use by default since iOS 11. It saves space on the phone, but Chrome could not display it in our test, and Windows 10 needs an extra extension to open it, according to the Library of Congress.
Do I need to install an app or codec?
No. Safari reads HEIC itself, and in other browsers this page loads its own decoder. Nothing is installed on your device.
Is the quality the same?
Each photo is saved as a JPEG at 92% quality inside the PDF, which is very close to the original. Turn on a file size limit only if you need a smaller file.
Can I mix HEIC and JPG photos?
Yes. HEIC, JPG, PNG and WebP images can go into the same PDF, in any order.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The photos are decoded and put into the PDF inside your browser. You can check by turning off Wi-Fi after the page loads.
Does the PDF include where the photo was taken?
No. GPS location and camera details stored in the photo are not copied into the PDF.
