How do I make raffle tickets?

Type the event name, the prize, the drawing date and the ticket price on the ticket, then set the first number and how many tickets you need. Print the PDF on card stock and cut along the dashed lines. Tear off each stub, have the buyer write their name and phone on it, and keep the stubs for the drawing.

  1. Type the event, prize, date and price on the ticket.
  2. Set the first number and how many tickets.
  3. Choose which stub lines to print.
  4. Download and print on card stock.
  5. Cut, tear off the stubs and keep them for the drawing.

What should a raffle ticket say?

The name of the event or the group holding it, the prize, the date and place of the drawing, and the price, plus a number that matches the stub. Short rules such as need not be present to win help avoid questions later. The stub keeps the buyer's name and phone number so you can reach the winner.

For a 50/50 raffle, pick 50/50 under Kind of raffle: the ticket says the winner takes half of the money raised. Tick Event, date and price on the stub so the seller's half still shows what the ticket was for.

Do raffle prizes have to be reported to the IRS?

For charity raffles, sometimes. The IRS instructions for Form W-2G (January 2026) cover church raffles and charity drawings: a prize at least 300 times the ticket price is reported once it reaches the yearly minimum, $2,000 for 2026, and 24% is withheld when the prize minus the ticket price is over $5,000. This is not tax or legal advice.

Who may hold a raffle is set by state and local law, so check your state's rules before selling tickets.

Do you need a permit to hold a raffle?

It depends on the state, so check yours before printing. Washington, for example, lets a nonprofit run two public raffles a year without a license if they take in $5,000 or less, and bars private people and businesses from running raffles at all. It needs a license for discounted tickets, such as 5 for $20.

The ticket price line is yours to type, so change a bundle price such as 5 for $20 to a single price if your state treats bundles as discounts. If you do get a license, type its number on the ticket.

Limits

  • No online ticket sales or payment. It prints paper tickets.
  • One design per batch, up to 300 tickets at a time.
  • Not legal or tax advice. Raffle rules differ by state. If your state or county gave you a raffle license, type its number on the ticket; there is a line for it.
