What should a gift certificate include?

Your business name and contact details, the amount or the service it covers, a unique certificate number, the date it was issued, any expiry date, and short terms such as not redeemable for cash. A signature line and To and From lines make it personal. This template has a field for each, and the number counts up for every copy.

How do I number gift certificates?

Set a prefix such as GC- and a first number such as 0001, then choose how many to print. Each certificate gets the next number, keeping the leading zeros, and the file name shows the range. Press New batch later and it starts after the last number, so two batches never share a number. Log the numbers you sell.

Can a gift certificate have an expiration date?

It depends on where you sell. The federal rule on gift cards and certificates (12 CFR 1005.20) requires at least five years before funds expire, but it excludes cards issued in paper form only. State laws can set their own limits on expiry dates and fees, so check your state's rules before printing a date.

What size is a printable gift certificate?

Three to a page, each certificate is 8 by 3.5 inches on US Letter, which fits a #10 envelope; on A4 it is 200 by 92 mm, for a DL envelope. Two to a page makes 7 by 5 inch cards for an A7 envelope. Print at actual size on card stock and cut along the crop marks.
