How do I open a PDF file online?
Press Open a PDF and pick the file, or drop it on the box. The pages appear below, ready to scroll. Use the buttons to change pages and zoom, type a page number to jump to it, or type a word in the Find box to search. To change the file afterwards, press Edit or convert.
- Press Open a PDF or drop the file on the box.
- Scroll, or type a page number in the page box and press Enter. On a computer, ‹ and › step one page. Press ▤ for page thumbnails.
- Zoom with − and +, or pinch with two fingers on a phone. Press the percentage to fit the width again, or ⤢ on a computer to see the whole page.
- Type in Find in document (Ctrl+F, or the 🔍 button on a phone) and press Enter for each next match.
Is it safe to open a PDF in a browser?
In this viewer, yes. Scripts written into the PDF are never run, links to other sites open in a new tab, and the file is read on your device instead of being sent to a server. The page runs inside your browser like any website, so the PDF cannot reach the rest of your computer.
Want to see whether a file carries scripts or attachments before you share it? Remove PDF Metadata lists them and can strip them out.
How do I search for a word in a PDF?
Type the word in the Find in document box. Every match on the page is highlighted and the viewer jumps to the first one, with a count such as 3 of 12. Press Enter or the down arrow for the next match, and the up arrow for the previous one. Search needs a PDF with real text.
If nothing is found in a scanned document, the pages are pictures of text. OCR PDF adds a searchable text layer to them.
Why won't my PDF open?
Check three causes. The file may be locked with a password, which Unlock PDF removes if you know it. It may be damaged, for example cut off during a download, which Repair PDF can often fix. Or it may not be a PDF at all, just a file named .pdf.
Fixes: Unlock PDF for a known password, Repair PDF for damaged files.
